I don't believe much in that kind of action. Manufacturers don't do business to please people. They do it to make money. As the number of Linux users grow, more manufacturers want to be on that market. It has already started. Meanwhile, if it doesn't already exist, a list of unsupported pieces of hardware due to lack of information from the maker could have some efficiency.
What harm can it do? Anything to get the attention of the h/w
manufacturers
is a good thing in my opinion.
These compaines are in it for the money. Some might not think there is enough of a market in the Linux area to pull a profit. If they receive a petition from 2,000,000 Linux users requesting drivers for their hardware, it means that if they want to use the drivers, they will have to logically have to own the hardware. These companies might know how big Linux really is. Think about it, the CEO and his board heard of Linux probably twice on CNN and that is it, they probably passed it off as a passing fad. But if they get millions of Linux users wanting to buy and use their hardware, they might change their mind about Linux and the abililty to make money in this market. Oh, and on an offtopic note, do you know roughly how many Linux users there are? Roughly about how many Apple users are there? I have a feeling that the number of Linux users is roughly the same as the amount of Apple users, can anyone (dis) prove this? I heard that there was about 10-12 million Linux users world wide, is this true? I would really like to know the facts on this, all I have is "hear-say" and rumors. Jack
