Can anybody give me some pointers as to how to get a cable modem up and running under SuSE 8.1
I have a cable modem, also from NTL, and didn't need to do anything to set it up. Mine is connected via ethernet - is yours ethernet or USB?
The modem is an Ambit USB cable modem supplied through NTL. It's an always on connection so when I tried to configure it through yast I haven't got a phone number to supply YAST.
Sounds like you're trying to configure the "modem" section. This isn't needed for the cable modems (despite the name). Because it's an always-on connection, think of it as a network connection, not a modem. I have no modem set up. The cable modem is signalled to SuSE by setting the main network card (eth0 in my case) as a DHCP connection, and everything works fine. Can you access the cable modem from e.g. mozilla? Mine provides an information page at 192.168.100.1 - can you access that on yours?
