If you already have those ttf files available somewhere, just copy them to someplace fontconfig knows about. Among such places is ~/.fonts. No need for a script or rpm.

That's obsolete in 11.0-up (maybe in 10.3 too?). Most of us are not using Xorg.6 any more. Try /usr/share/fonts/truetype. That's where I have DejaVu & Liberation (among many others).
Interesting. I have both directories, the window's fonts being in the old one. I also have a bunch of directories under /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts which are almost empty, dated 2006 and 2007, which I'll see about deleting. [...] Curious: there is only one current file: /usr/X11R6/bin/xauth --> ../../bin/xauth I have deleted all the rest. Ok, I made a backup first, I'm a bit paranoid sometimes O:-) - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
