what are you experiences like?
do you recommended it?
Yes.
what are the pros?
Seems to be more cache-aggressive (although #linuxfs people deny that), hence is faster on some operations (such as re-stat) Quota is counted from mount time on (this is not the case with any other filesystem out there). (No other Linux distribution has XFS support as good as SUSEs -- FC may but I have not tested FC on an x86 actually, which is a different problem)
what are the cons?
Don't know right now. Can't shrink filesystems, but I suppose reiser3 is the only one to do that. However, growing/shrinking is only for those who fail to partition their disk properly.
I have a system that i want to install for a longer term as a server so i am
not planning on reinstalling it in the near future after deployment. hopefully not for several years :) (updates would be performed :) ) so if you have any recommendetions on experiences and best practices regarding filesystems in general and XFS in particular as im considering it as a prime candidate instead of ext3 do let me know. -- Regards -RP- ___________________________
