Subject: Re: [SLE] Compac Pressario
Hello Niels,
A few years ago I owned a Presario (P166Mhz) and I had problems with it. It turned out that some of the hardware inside it was Compaq's own and therefore there weren't any drivers available for it.
Now I hear that today they have given up this practise and use 'standard' components.
The modem is most certainly a 'Windows' soft modem. Support in Linux is not widely available for this kind -> you probably won't be able to use it.
The sound chip is possibly proprietary (i.e. Compaq's own) and therefore there aren't any OSS drivers available. If you open your machine you'll probably be able to get some information about the chipset used on the sound card and then can do a search on the web for it.
(Try using www.google.com/linux and then input your search).
Good luck.
Jethro
