Have created a new user and added to video - same result - won't play the TS files.
Don't know?? May try uninstalling + reinstalling again. Thanks, John. Have since been in and uninstalled VLC (but now believe this isn't
snip the problem) and reinstalled, and also selected the Packman repo in Yast and switched packages. snip Re your problem, I am wondering if you have checked the settings in vlc? Nope, have never changed any settings in VLC - has always 'just worked' in the past..
For example, I use vlc to watch TV and if I want to record a program I have to deselect the option "Prefer native stream recording", which is the end of the Input/Codecs settings otherwise no recording is made.
Last question: I mentioned that you could have some remnants of old files hanging around in your home directory - but I didn't ask you which version of oS you are running, and how did you get to it: a clean install or thru an upgrade.
Always do a complete 'fresh' install when I update, but use the same 'home'. but, as I said, it has worked since the last reinstall.
I had mentioned the possibility of having a rogue file in the home directory and suggested that you create a new user and see if the problem is still occurring, You did this and said that the result was the same. BUT, now that you are re-installed vlc from scratch (possibly eliminating a problem with the copy of vlc), does a new user with this re-installed vlc still have the problem? Yep, sure does...
(It's all a matter of starting off with "a level playing field" and eliminating variables one by one until the solution to a problem is pinpointed.)
Yep, realize that as I work in IT as well. :-) By the way, thanks for your persistence with this, appreciate the help! Has me confused... My thinking was maybe a wayward codec, or similar, but then it works using mplayer from the command line.... hmmm.
