Interesting, I have to go through the CHANGELOG to see why they disabled it. I know that the dvdnav included in all distros are too ancient for recent mplayer to use, but they could have prokaged a SVN version from the mplayer site.
I have simply found it easier to use vlc to play them than to grab the svn and build myself (lazy ;-) ).
It is easy once you have done it once and set up a script. ;-)
