From: Max webb, AKA The Intermediate Newbie, AKA object of desire for women, AKA pork rind eater etc I wish to use SuSE's Yast Online Update to download the latest patches and update for my SuSE Linux box. I am being cautious about doing this because after downloading the updates and applying them, I encountered a problem with xcdroast no longer functioning. Also, I have read in the forum that others have had problems with YAST modules in the KDE control center after applying KDE 3.xx updates. I realize that the problems that I have encountered are most likely the result of my in experience and lack of knowledge in the post application and configuration phase of the updates. Since I had just installed 8.0, I decided to reinstall the system to "fix" my update related problems. I know this is a primitive solution, but I did not know what to do at that point. I did however execute xcdroast (before I reinstalled) from a terminal emulater as to see any error messages. The resulting error output concerned a GID not being set, several UID's not being set, and a file not found... all in relation to "CD recording backends" like mkisofs, etc, which were updated with Y.O.U. I would appreciate any advice and or tips on successfull applying updates via YOU. Please keep in mind that I am a newbie, although I do know how to use chmod, chown, chgrp etc, on a basic level. Thanks. Max. -- Remember: Always think positively. You will prevail.
