When I first tried KDE4 on oS 11.0 (32-bit) and tried out the fancy desktop effects (like wobbly windows, cubed display) I had no hassles - all worked by simply enabling Effects in the Desktop Configuration. I thought it was all quite cute (but not necessarily cuddly) and went back to the non-frills KDE4 desktop. A few days ago I thought I would try this fancy stuff again, especially with oS 11.1 Beta5. But now, in both oS 11.0 and 11.1 Beta5 all I get is an error message stating: Compositing is not supported on your system. Required X extensions (XComposite and XDamage) are not available. My system (32-bit) hasn't changed so why "suddenly" I cannot use the fancy effects? Another progression in the wild and woolly ride on KDE4.x? (My system/s are upgraded daily.) I've checked the archives for openSUSE - and the kde mail list which I joined today - and cannot see anything to do with this inability to be able to use the 'wobbles' and the 'cubecals' and whateverelse. Just to complete the picture, I am not using a laptop, have an nVidia card with the very latest driver installed which has 3D enabled (just like some months ago when I first tried KDE4 under oS 11.0). Anyone, please, have a simple solution to my hassle?
