Erm, not always :) As far as I can see, *all* status and error messages are enclosed in {}.
{ DriveReady SeekComplete } is a fairly general error message. The docs mention that some drives are confused by the ATA init sequence. Read /usr/src/linux/Documentation/cdrom/ide-cd for more info, and some suggestions on how to get around it
