Hi all, I have an odd problem with my CD-RW, when I try to mount it with a real CD in it (Real as in not audio), I get phantasm@office:~> mount /dev/cdrecorder mount: No medium found /dev/cdrecorder is mapped to /dev/cdrecorder -> /dev/sr0 I am using the ide-scsi module and it shows fine with cdrecord -scanbus scsibus0: 0,0,0 0) 'HP ' 'CD-Writer+ 9100b' '1.07' Removable CD-ROM dmesg shows this message paride: version 1.06 installed (parport) pg: pg version 1.02, major 97 pg0: Autoprobe failed pg: No ATAPI device detected paride: version 1.06 installed (parport) pg: pg version 1.02, major 97 pg0: Autoprobe failed pg: No ATAPI device detected paride: version 1.06 installed (parport) pg: pg version 1.02, major 97 pg0: Autoprobe failed pg: No ATAPI device detected paride: version 1.06 installed (parport) pg: pg version 1.02, major 97 pg0: Autoprobe failed pg: No ATAPI device detected cdrom: open failed. Well, I tried a little more with this, and tried to re-install thinking that maybe the kernel hiccuped and the CDROM boots fine, but during install I get the DeviceReady SeekRead error or what ever that is. I had to do a network install to get SuSE back on the system I don't get why it boots off CD fine, just don't install fine :/ Any ideas here would help! Are those in curly brackets? Messages in curly brackets indicate a drive on the way out (it happened to me). -- Stephen Patterson Whom computers would destroy, they must first drive mad.

Erm, not always :) As far as I can see, *all* status and error messages are enclosed in {}. { DriveReady SeekComplete } is a fairly general error message. The docs mention that some drives are confused by the ATA init sequence. Read /usr/src/linux/Documentation/cdrom/ide-cd for more info, and some suggestions on how to get around it //Anders

Fine, I was seeing those for a while and then my cd drive died, so I thought those messages were indicating imminent drive death. -- Stephen Patterson Whom computers would destroy, they must first drive mad.
