Maybe your DHCP server isn't working correctly - or maybe there's a bug in the linux DHCP code. I've kind of got a similar problem (on 7.0 and 7.1). I'm using a SMC Barricade (it's a broadband router/switch) which is the DHCP server on my home network. Under windows it picks up it's IP address and works fine, however, under linux it complains about the response from the DHCP server at boot time, although I can't find the message in any log :(, and then doesn't work :( So I have to statically assign an IP address. Don't know if this is a linux or SMC Barricade problem. Jamie On Fri, 27 Apr 2001, Ricardo Rodriguez wrote:

how do I run the dhcp from a console?
Easiest would be install the package via yast then adjust the nic to autoip tehn configure the dhcpclient via yast and then once done rchdclient restart and see how it goes
