I am really sorry, I mean, my network assign it dynamically.
Try running dhcpcd from a console as root, and see if there are any error messages.
Will that bootpc work?
No.

Easiest would be install the package via yast then adjust the nic to autoip tehn configure the dhcpclient via yast and then once done rchdclient restart and see how it goes HTH -- Togan Muftuoglu
This was done already.....,
what else??

Maybe your DHCP server isn't working correctly - or maybe there's a bug in the linux DHCP code. I've kind of got a similar problem (on 7.0 and 7.1). I'm using a SMC Barricade (it's a broadband router/switch) which is the DHCP server on my home network. Under windows it picks up it's IP address and works fine, however, under linux it complains about the response from the DHCP server at boot time, although I can't find the message in any log :(, and then doesn't work :( So I have to statically assign an IP address. Don't know if this is a linux or SMC Barricade problem. Jamie On Fri, 27 Apr 2001, Ricardo Rodriguez wrote:

It is the same case, the thing is that it works with
red hat and I can't set a static IP.

Hi Ricardo, Which DHCP client are you using? Some months ago I had a similar problem on a 7.0 box using ISC DHCP client (package dhclient). Then I switched to dhcpcd and everithing is running fine so far. []s, Bráulio Gergull GetNet Comunicações Ricardo Rodriguez wrote:

Actually I can not tell.
I had this prob. long time ago with v6.4 and now with
7.0 (I switched to RD for a while becuase of that).
I am running in a huge network (I think more that
1,000 workstation) and I'm kind of far to the network
admin (Im just a simple user here).
This network runs with NT and IP's are dinamically,
when I really tried to make it work long time ago I
tried all available DHCP clients on 6.4
Anyway I just got my v7.1 today and will make a whole
new installation starting from scratch tomorrow
afternoon, so lets hope everything is going to be ok.
I was thinking about using all the default settings on
my tomorrow installation. Any extra suggestion to
consider?

Humm, I've just tried Mandrake 8.0 on my laptop - first non-SuSE distro I've tried in 3 years! The DHCP worked fine with my SMC Barricade, so maybe there's something wrong with the DHCP support in SuSE 7.0/7.1? Jamie On Sun, 29 Apr 2001, Ricardo Rodriguez wrote:
