These were the steps which finally made my Epson work with SuSE 8.1 and, even more important, continue working after a reboot:-)
- Include 'options scanner product=0x11e vendor=0x4b8' in /etc/modules.conf - Uncomment 'epson' (only epson) in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf - Include 'usb /dev/usb/scanner0' in /etc/sane.d/epson.conf; NOTE: usb /dev/usbscanner did NOT work; - Include 'usb-ohci' in INITRD_MODULES in /etc/sysconfig/kernel; and run mk_initrd NOTE: including also 'scanner' did NOT help - Add an entry to the hotplug configuration file /etc/hotplug/usb.distmap; (i.e. copy a line -which indeed stretches over three lines- and change the values to 0x11e and 0x4b8 - according to first point) - Add 'modprobe scanner' in /etc/init.d/boot.local
I followed your suggestions, but I got a bad problem: a "kernel panic" because there must have been something wrong when usb-ohci was included. /etc/sysconfig/kernel looked like this: INITRD_MODULES="reiserfs" INITRD_MODULES="usb-ohci" I have SUSE 8.0 (not 8.1). Any suggestions ? Thanks, Riccardo,Italy.
