But if you are still looking for DVD writers that work well, I have used Pioneer A-108 (16x writer), and any of the LiteOn writers with no errors. Sony has been marginal, and NEC's new drivers are really nice.
I'd look at the NEC, Pioneer first, then LiteOn. If you need fast CD writer and reader with your DVD, then NEC or LiteOn.
