Recommendations for a DVD writer
Can anyone recommend a DVD writer that worked nicely with 9.2? I was thinking IDE internal, but any other successes would be nice to hear too, eg firewire or usb, even SCSI if you think yours is great ... http://www.tomshardware.com/storage/20041102/index.html has a nice review of 10 of them.
My LG DVD writer (DVDRAM GSA-4120B) works a treat.

I was thinking of getting a DVD-RAM compatible drive such as an LG, since I understand DVD-RAM to be much better for reliable computer data storage than DVD+-R(W) formats. Tell us, have you used the drive with DVD-RAM media successfully? Thanks. -- ____________________________________ Christopher R. I have a DVD-RAM drive on a two-year-old Gateway 300L Business System and SuSE >9 has a problem writing to it, for some odd reason. Since 9 seems to work okay it makes me wonder. Can't recall the make, and the box is down, right now, so can't check. -- ..."Yogi" CH Namasté Yoga Studio

Does that drive take cartridge DVD-RAMs or the non-cartridge type? Thanks. -- ____________________________________ Christopher R. Carlen Principal Laser/Optical Technologist Sandia National Laboratories CA USA crcarle@sandia.gov
My appoligies for interjecting. But if you are still looking for DVD writers that work well, I have used Pioneer A-108 (16x writer), and any of the LiteOn writers with no errors. Sony has been marginal, and NEC's new drivers are really nice. I'd look at the NEC, Pioneer first, then LiteOn. If you need fast CD writer and reader with your DVD, then NEC or LiteOn. Hope that helps. ...Paul Christopher Carlen wrote:

I think interjecting is expected on a public forum. So thanks for interjecting!

Ok, but I am convinced that DVD-RAM is what I really want, for data backup. Good day! -- ____________________________________ Christopher R. Carlen Principal Laser/Optical Technologist Sandia National Laboratories CA USA crcarle@sandia.gov
