I got "systemctl start xdm.service" to start after installing

No idea which specific thing it was that "fixed it".
startx is unhappy. Below is the screen output. I suspect I still need to run a setup/config for this specific machine, as the config file I copied from another is old and has bad keywords. I've not found one as yet.
If xdm.service is running, and you get a graphical session, then you do not need to try startx.
Copying the config file is a bad idea. In fact, the default is no config file (talking of /etc/X11/xorg.conf). If you copied it, you should
delete it.
Parse error on line 45 of section Files in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/xorg.conf Ignoring obsolete keyword "InputDevices". VMware: No 3D enabled (0, Success).
Is this a virtual machine?
Yes, it is a VM. I got things working to the point I could do a VNC session from my PC.
However, I want to emulate another system where I can VNC into a port other than the default (standard) VNC port. Although I have it (apparently) working (no errors on starting that configuration) I cannot access it remotely as I can other servers. It appears it is due to the chosen port being blocked by firewall.
In "the new order" of things I do not see a way to allow "custom" ports to pass via the firewall control in YAST, only the "known" services are selectable.
log into the host machine, then to the VM.

Not following you. The firewall I want to manipulate is on the VM. I found a way to add the port via "firewall-cmd", and it works, but YAST does not show it at all
Is there a way to add "custom ports" via YAST or is it limited to "known port"?
yast2 firewall zones external ports or zones trusted ports or zones internal ports but I am not a firewall expert nor a YaST expert, I moved my ssh using firewall-config use them one at a time to see which works and is the least vulnerable -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet oftc What sort of day was it?
