Okay, here's the situation
The computer in the other room has its My Documents folder shared (//POMMYMOMMY/My Documents). It's running Windows XP. How do I connect to that folder on my Linux machine. Do I need to set up a network on the XP machine or what?
If you have the Samba Client installed and the two machines are in communication, you should be able to see My Documents if you issue the command smbclient -NL POMMYMOMMY In order to access it, you'll need to do the following (as root) chmod +s $(which smbmnt) chmod +s $(which smbumount) so that you can access the mount/unmount utilities as an ordinary user. Then do: smbmount //POMMYMOMMY/My\ Documents mnt where mnt is an available directory. If it asks you for a password, just hit Enter (unless you really need a password). Then you can get at My Documents through mnt. To unmount, do the obvious: smbumount mnt good luck Paul
