Hi, For a few weeks now, LibreOffice Writer won't display documents correctly. This occurs with .doc files and with .odt files.
I have been hoping that the program might correct itself with some update to come along from the programmers, but it hasn't been resolved. So I am writing to see if someone recognizes the problem and knows how to fix it.
I am using openSUSE 12.2 with kde4 Platform Version 4.9.5 "release 3", and LibreOffice Version 3.6:build-304 (Build ID: 360m1(Build:304).
To compare what is happening when I try to display an example of a doc file, please take a look at these images.
Here is the .doc file displayed in LibreOffice.

Clicking on the page displayed in LO changes what is presented. Sometimes the missing text is displayed, other times everything disappears. Other times, some more text appears each time I click, until it decides to reverse course and text starts to disappear again. Scrolling past the page and then scrolling back will sometimes change what is presented as well. It is all very random.
Could you please open a bug at https://bugzilla.novell.com, describe the steps to reproduce, and attach the test document and the screenshot there?
The structure of the Writer documents is pretty complex. Sometimes a fix for one document breaks displaying an other document. Anyway, we are doing best to converge to the ideal state.

Hi, I wanted to experiment a bit before I opened a bug. I had some input about removing and reinstalling LibreOffice in a private email, so I did this first:
#zypper -v rm libreoffice-* #zypper install libreoffice
After I did that, everything was as previously described.
I am confused. Does it mean that it worked fine or that it shown the same bug.
It showed the same bug.
I had some other input to try LibreOffice 4.0.0.1rc1, which I did. I downloaded the LibreOffice tar file from LibreOffice.org and extracted it. I also did the same for the help file. Then I removed the old LibreOffice
#zypper -v rm libreoffice-*
Then installed both the LibreOffice rpm and the help file rpm as per the instructions given in the readme files.
The installation went without a hitch, but when I try to open up a document I have the same display problem as with the previous version of LibreOffice.
If I understand it correctly, the same problem is also with the upstream build from http://www.libreoffice.org/download/. It means that it is not SUSE-specific.
The same problem also displayed with the 4.0.0.1 libreoffice rpm downloaded directly from LibreOffice.org and then installed on my desktop computer.
I have to think that the problem is not with LO but with one of its dependencies. Any ideas?
I am confused. Do you have any LO build where it works?
I have the problem on my desktop computer on all versions of LO that I have tried. It effects all documents, so there are no documents that are not effected and it would be useless to provide a sample document. I don't have the same problem on my laptop computer using the same document when I open it with LibreOffice.
If you see the problem with any LO build, please report it into bugzilla, attach there the test document and describe the steps to reproduce.
I have opened a bug there, here is the url. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=798789 I wanted to experiment a little before opening a bug to see if I could find a solution. Some other problems manifested, and there was no reply on the mailing list to the problem addressed in this thread. So I opened a single bug that dealt with incorrect picture rendering and the problem with text not displaying properly. If you will view the bug you can see what progress has been made to resolve the problems.
If you see it with upstream build, please report it into the upstream bugzilla at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ There are more developers, so there is higher chance that the bug will get fixed soon.
Ok, that is done. Here is the bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59667
