[opensuse] LibreOffice Writer doesn't display documents correctly
Hi, For a few weeks now, LibreOffice Writer won't display documents correctly. This occurs with .doc files and with .odt files. I have been hoping that the program might correct itself with some update to come along from the programmers, but it hasn't been resolved. So I am writing to see if someone recognizes the problem and knows how to fix it. I am using openSUSE 12.2 with kde4 Platform Version 4.9.5 "release 3", and LibreOffice Version 3.6:build-304 (Build ID: 360m1(Build:304). To compare what is happening when I try to display an example of a doc file, please take a look at these images. Here is the .doc file displayed in LibreOffice. http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/9132/39487067.png Clicking on the page displayed in LO changes what is presented. Sometimes the missing text is displayed, other times everything disappears. Other times, some more text appears each time I click, until it decides to reverse course and text starts to disappear again. Scrolling past the page and then scrolling back will sometimes change what is presented as well. It is all very random. Here is how the document should be displayed, using Softmaker Textmaker program. http://img541.imageshack.us/img541/3258/90956889.png Thank you in advance for your input on how to resolve this question. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I'm afraid I can't help with resolving the issue, but my experience with OO and LO has always been that the rendering of MS formats wasn't quite 100%, in particular if the documents came from MSO. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (1.4°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Why not try v4.0.0.0 beta2 which I am using now and having no problems with doc or odt files[**]? v4 is here http://www.libreoffice.org/ and instructions on how to install it are also given there. Could you please open a bug at https://bugzilla.novell.com, describe the steps to reproduce, and attach the test document and the screenshot there? The structure of the Writer documents is pretty complex. Sometimes a fix for one document breaks displaying an other document. Anyway, we are doing best to converge to the ideal state. I guess for me the first thing which comes to mind is the font used. Do you have all the fonts installed, and are the Options in the Preferences set up correctly? Oh, forgot to mention a couple of things. The first is that you need to alter the path of the Quick Launch icon in the task bar to be on the safe side of not picking up some remnants of the previous installation of LO (if you do has such a QL icon that is). And the second is- use YaST software management to delete the previous (or now the existing) version of LO. Using YaST makes it easy to see that all of the previous version has been removed. It appears that I have the latest of LO installed. The only things remaining from the 3.6.x installation are opensuse branding and some various bits like icons and themes. look for ~/.libreoffice and ~/.config/.libreoffice they would contain *old* or remnants of previously installed configurations. It appears safe to remove them but safer to mv so you can restore if necessary. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It showed the same bug.

The same problem also displayed with the 4.0.0.1 libreoffice rpm downloaded directly from LibreOffice.org and then installed on my desktop computer.
I have to think that the problem is not with LO but with one of its dependencies. Any ideas?
I am confused. Do you have any LO build where it works?
I have the problem on my desktop computer on all versions of LO that I have tried. It effects all documents, so there are no documents that are not effected and it would be useless to provide a sample document. I don't have the same problem on my laptop computer using the same document when I open it with LibreOffice.
If you see the problem with any LO build, please report it into bugzilla, attach there the test document and describe the steps to reproduce.
I have opened a bug there, here is the url. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=798789 I wanted to experiment a little before opening a bug to see if I could find a solution. Some other problems manifested, and there was no reply on the mailing list to the problem addressed in this thread. If you will view the bug you can see what progress has been made to resolve the problems.

Thanks a lot for reporting the bugs. I would prefer to keep only the upstream one. I am sorry if my instructions were unclear. Please, do not forget to mention all details in the upstream build. IMHO, it is important that you do not see the missing text on the other system. It looks like system specific => it might be harder to debug. Any information would be useful.
