[opensuse-translation] translate openSUSE+upstream at once: merged pot file, gnome-packagekit
Hallo. I have prepared a very special pot file for gnome-packagegit for both upstream and openSUSE version: http://pack.suse.cz/sbrabec/gnome-packagekit/gnome-packagekit.pot Strings marked as openSUSE/ are in the current openSUSE version, strings marked trunk/ are just now in SVN. It you will translate only openSUSE/ strings, openSUSE will be complete. Translating of trunk/ strings is an investment for the future. If you will consider this approach useful, it is possible to automatize generating of such files (see below). Comparing the difference, some of openSUSE specific strings were apparent mistakes: Internal strings, don't translate: "gtk-about" "gtk-help" "gtk-quit" String "Some updates were not updated" should be translated as "Some updates were not installed", as it was fixed in upstream. It is trivial to make such pot file on your own and even make a tool doing this automatically: tar -jxf gnome-packagekit-0.2.0.tar.bz2 svn co http://svn.gnome.org/svn/gnome-packagekit cd gnome-packagekit-0.2.0/po intltool-update --pot sed -i '/^#:/s: ../: openSUSE/:g' *.pot cd ../../gnome-packagekit/trunk/po intltool-update --pot sed -i '/^#:/s: ../: trunk/:g' *.pot cd ../../.. msgcat gnome-packagekit-0.2.0/po/gnome-packagekit.pot gnome-packagekit/trunk/po/gnome-packagekit.pot -o gnome-packagekit.pot (Minor note: If minute differs, you will get initial message twice. It's easy to fix.) -- Best Regards / S pozdravem, Stanislav Brabec software developer --------------------------------------------------------------------- SUSE LINUX, s. r. o. e-mail: sbrabec@suse.cz Lihovarská 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 966, +49 911 740538747 190 00 Praha 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-translation+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-translation+help@opensuse.org
Hello, at four days before deadline it's still not really clear how we should proceed. At the moment we have three .po/.pot (openSUSE SVN, partly translated upstream, Stanislav's .pot), and we don't know where to commit it. Plus it seems we are expected to correct also the origial text. Fedora did something simpler: they extracted the UI strings and translated those. They are only 67 ( http://translate.fedoraproject.org/module/packagekit ), and for the available languages, I think those strings should be reused. There's no need to translate the whole .po and there's no need to standardise string tagging, because our teams accepted to translate openSUSE, its additions and not applications. Moreover I still don't understand why it was decided to include that GUI for the updater if it was not properly translated before the decision. It's simply the wrong approach, and it shows once again that the importance given to localization is too low at opensuse. On my side, I decided not to proceed with its translation and to give priority to the rest of the distribution, to which this file does not belong to.
