Figured out how to install my HP LaserJet, and it works fine. Problem is to install Epson WP-4530 all-in-one. The install files in the /usr//share/cups... directory are in a format strange to the Epson website, as far as I can tell; I have a downloaded file which I recognize from old times, but it's in rpm format, which I have not seen for a FILE, before, only for a complete app. And I know that OpenSuse has it's own way of dealing with rpms--I could decode it by the old rpm -Uvh system, but Suse might not like that, so what should I do now? A good point to start is probably https://openprinting.org/printer/Epson/Epson-WP-4095 It points you to the rpm containing some legacy stuff (print application) as well as the ppd driver used for CUPS printing.
And I know that OpenSuse has it's own way of dealing with rpms--I could decode it by the old rpm -Uvh system, but Suse might not like that, so what should I do now?
As said, it installs some printer application as well. I would probably take the ppd driver for the 4530 series from the RPM (rpm opens fine with ark) and add it in the YaST or CUPS installation dialog. Let us know if this worked for you. AFAIK, RPM is just a wrapper around an archive file, with added metadata; so it could be used to enclose a single file. In any case, the rpm command still works as well as ever, so no reason not to give it a try. From my experience with another model of Epson all-in-one (L850 Series): 1) Don't install anything from their website. 2) For printer driver install epson-inkjet-printer-escpr package (I see it also has files for WP-4530). 3) Scanner works out of the box with default scanning application. iscan (which is available in openSUSE repo) is broken.
