[opensuse-support] how to block the use of non existing extention
On my camera in use e.g. for Skype and other programs I have disconnected the builtin microphone. The sound over the time deteriorated. I am now using a separate microphone. Now and than when I least expect it especial Skype decides that it is or should be connected with the builtin microphone. How and where can I prevent the use of this non existing microphone? opensuse:tumbleweed:20200701 Qt: 5.15.0 KDE Frameworks: 5.71.0 - KDE Plasma: 5.19.2 - kwin 5.19.2 kmail2 5.14.2 (20.04.2) - akonadiserver 5.14.2 (20.04.2) - Kernel: 5.7.5-1-default - xf86-video-nouveau: -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

In the Skype settings is a dialogue that allows you to select a microphone (that was at least the case when I used it last) HTH Axel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

I guess you are using PulseAudio which would mean to use "pavucontrol". It allows to define the _default_ device on the _Input Devices_ tab. This should work then for all audio application which honor the _default_ device settings you defined in "pavucontrol". Unfortunately, I have seen PA to sometimes ignores its own defaults from time to time. So, when it goes wrong, re-check the settings in "pavucontrol". HTH, cheers. l8er manfred

Thanks Manfred, Pavucontrol has indeed a possibility to set a device to zero. Whether it keeps that configuration after updates is something I will find out soon. The Skype config was not trustworthy and had to reset often. If I forgot to check I was in a one way Skype conversation ;) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

Possibly you could set the skype config file to read-only? Leslie -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org
