[opensuse-support] Kiwi restart
Hi, as SUSE Studio is faded away already some time, I want to make a new attempt in image-building. Needless to say, the old sources dont work, and the documentation e.g. on https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:KIWI is close to its 10 years anniversary of not being touched. Taking a look at https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/openSUSE:Factory:Live I would like to understand how currently the live images are build. I looks like there is an additional script that puts pieces like list- installer.sh, list-common.sh and list-kde.sh together to come up with a livecd-tumbleweed-kde.kiwi Can anyone explain? So, apparently the *kiwi is the place to start for a custom image, if one does not want to keep it generic? Hi Axel Why not use Studio Express? https://studioexpress.opensuse.org/ For OBS have a look here: https://www.suse.com/c/tag/kiwi-template/ Worth a visit: https://github.com/OSInside/kiwi-descriptions -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° SUSE Knowledge Partner (Linux Counter #276890) Tumbleweed 20200701 | GNOME Shell 3.36.3 | 5.7.5-1-default Intel DQ77MK MB | Xeon E3-1245 V2 X8 @ 3.40 GHz | Intel/Nvidia up 4:25, 2 users, load average: 0.23, 0.18, 0.37 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

As Andrei wrote as well, my perception is that studioexpress is noting else than the kiwi-capabilites of OBS....
For OBS have a look here: https://www.suse.com/c/tag/kiwi-template/
Goot for a start, but unfortunately the 'meat' gives a 404 error (http://openbuildservice.org/help/manuals/obs-reference-guide/ cha.obs.package_formats.html#_kiwi_appliance)
Worth a visit: https://github.com/OSInside/kiwi-descriptions
Yes, that should give some inspriation on the config, as well as the link in Andreis mail! Thanks Axel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Axel Start up here and see if that helps...? https://openbuildservice.org/help/ Looks like you need to drop the .html https://openbuildservice.org/help/manuals/obs-user-guide/cha.obs.package_for... -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° SUSE Knowledge Partner (Linux Counter #276890) Tumbleweed 20200708 | GNOME Shell 3.36.3 | 5.7.7-1-default Intel DQ77MK MB | Xeon E3-1245 V2 X8 @ 3.40 GHz | Intel/Nvidia up 1 day 23:41, 2 users, load average: 0.79, 1.11, 1.04 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks again Malcolm! It does not deal with the special setup of the current live-images - I guess I will do a crosspost to the factory list (and count on the developers there) Best, Axel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

My understanding is that it is done by OBS backend that detects image instead of normal package and invokes kiwi instead of whatever builds package. But I tried and also failed to find any documentation (even incomplete) about such project. May be you can pick something here: https://en.opensuse.org/Building_derived_containers
So, apparently the *kiwi is the place to start for a custom image, if one does not want to keep it generic?
Thanks in advance Axel
