Hi,
I tried to install Samba 2.2 on my SuSE 7.1, but I cannot log in. The system looks for a /lib/security/pam_pwdb.so, which is missing in the pam.rpm from SuSE.
I have a very similar problem: SuSE doesn't make use of the standard pam_unix.so module, it uses a "pam_unix2.so". This module doesn't work with pam_pwdb.so. This is really bad, because i need a password history, which isn't provided neither by pam_unix2.so nor pam_pwcheck.so. Check your policies in /etc/pam.d after you've installed a generic PAM suite! As a workaround for your problem i suggest you to comment out any lines in your /etc/pam.d/CONFIG_FILE_FOR_SAMBA which contains a reference to pam_pwdb.so. Thomas Gerisch
