Libraries missing pam.rpm (pam_pwdb.so)
Hi, I tried to install Samba 2.2 on my SuSE 7.1, but I cannot log in. The system looks for a /lib/security/pam_pwdb.so, which is missing in the pam.rpm from SuSE. Has anyone ideas or a workaround? I dont want to install a generic pam.rpm and find myself locked out... thanks Alexander Topolanek Propst Peitlstr. 85 2103 Langenzersdorf Austria Phone: +43-2244-33633-633 Fax: +43-2244-33633-55 GSM: +43-676-5702852 email: atopo@ocv.org

I have a very similar problem: SuSE doesn't make use of the standard pam_unix.so module, it uses a "pam_unix2.so". This module doesn't work with pam_pwdb.so. This is really bad, because i need a password history, which isn't provided neither by pam_unix2.so nor pam_pwcheck.so. Check your policies in /etc/pam.d after you've installed a generic PAM suite! As a workaround for your problem i suggest you to comment out any lines in your /etc/pam.d/CONFIG_FILE_FOR_SAMBA which contains a reference to pam_pwdb.so. Thomas Gerisch

Unfortunately all lines in /etc/pam.d/samba are referencing to pam_pwdb.so. But I used another configfile there as a pattern, and it works! Alexander
