He says: "I could reliable trigger the bug by activating the screensaver. The hack running is a python based gnome-screensaver plugin written by me. The freeze occured after the screen faded out, at or shortly after the the first few seconds of the hack running." everything is extremely slow, literally, even font rendering going line by line but, despite that, it looks pretty good ! i can even watch movie with mplayer -vo gl2 not in full-screen (with slight frame-drops however). about fonts: conditions for fastest font rendering (all with antialiasing) was xf86-video-ati (radeon) driver 6.9.0 + mesa 7.1_rc3 + accelmethod=XAA. mesa earlier than this is not support my card, driver complaining about unsupported XAA on my card but working great for some reason. xf86-video-ati driver 6.9.0 + mesa 7.1_rc3 + accelmethod=EXA give slightly slower font rendering but better with 3D. xf86-video-ati GIT (today) + mesa GIT + accelmethod=XAA give bad bad speed and approximately same font rendering as xf86-video-ati driver 6.9.0 + mesa 7.1_rc3 + accelmethod=EXA. xf86-video-ati GIT (today) + mesa GIT + accelmethod=EXA give slightly better 3D performance than xf86-video-ati driver 6.9.0 + mesa 7.1_rc3 + accelmethod=EXA but font rendering speed beetwen xf86-video-ati driver 6.9.0 + mesa 7.1_rc3 + accelmethod=EXA and xf86-video-ati driver 6.9.0 + mesa 7.1_rc3 + accelmethod=XAA. So x11-drivers/xf86-video-radeonhd + mesa GIT + accelmethod=EXA give worse (so poor it's annoying) font rendering speed and 3D speed as xf86-video-ati GIT (today) + mesa GIT + accelmethod=XA if you need some info\tests from me - just say it. -- Qui audet adipiscitur

There was virtual screen real estate off the bottom of the PANEL that was inaccessible, but no big deal. After the addition of scaling on commit 26ccf1177465beb2db5a2c972dd7adc17c3f457b, the laptop is forced into the scaled "letterbox" style mode, making it tiny, undreadable, and with unusable black space on the top and bottom of the screen. Which is of course exactly what the new 1920x1200Scaled mode should look like. However, it's not what I want. I don't think it's a simple matter of a bad default selection, as the native 1400x1050 mode is set as the preferred mode. Trying to make it use this via xrandr manually fails: xrandr --output PANEL --mode 1400x1050 xrandr: Configure crtc 1 failed so I think the ability to use the native mode in this case is just broken, and the scaled mode is the fallback that works. xorg.conf attached, along with -logverbose 7 X logs for two cases: the working 20080429 version (git commit 45fdec79e523f3f9637c35a3d84c1fd9e61b9b21) and the latest of the broken versions, 20080716 (git 820187b208ab1ec94a015f07e48abbb381524c89). xrandr outputs also attached. My spec: Asus M50SA Ubuntu 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP i686 GNU/Linux RAM: 4 GB Radeon HD 3650 mobility 1 GB VRAM GIT version dated 29/7-08 of libdrm/drm/dri/mesa/radeonhd When compiled every libdrm/drm/dri/mesa and at last radeonhd, and then reboot, I get a completely gray screen. I hear everything loads normal, like kde 4 startup sound etc. I attached my xorg.0.log file. compile error on master (partly fixed)

Hello! Currently the master tree does not compile because of strange typedefs, which I fixed in 44c030257dc5cddb83193e7f9d3961238d5190a8 (available at http://unix.schottelius.org/git/foreign/radeonhd for-upstream). Still, it does not compile because of wrong struct refs: radeon_textured_video.c: In function ■RADEONPutImageTextured■: radeon_textured_video.c:223: error: ■struct RHDRec■ has no member named ■xaa■ I'm gonna see, whether I can fix that without knowledge of the driver.
