My Thinkpad has a blue Fn button; when this is depressed, the Home and End keys are supposed to control backlight brightness. When the radeonhd driver is active, these buttons have no effect. However, the BIOS does seem to know they're being pushed, because after switching to a text console, and pressing those keys once, the cumulative effect of the previous presses is also seen. Subsequently switching back to the radeonhd vt leaves the brightness at the new (modified) level. So essentially I have to switch to tty1 to change the backlight brightness. With fglrx, I get the following dpi informations: resolution: 97x95 dots per inch Which seems well sized and correct. With radeonhd I get at default 98x98 (with and without the ddc module). The fonts seems to be clear but at many places they are just oversized. I tried to override the value with forcedpi, but there I can just set a value for the X and Y parameter at the same time, so that this isn't any choice for me. After I've modified an little part of the sourcecode in src/rhd_driver.c I get (maybe before, too) at my Xorg log, that it has detect 96 dpi as standard, but it still uses 98 dpi. mouse cursor flickering in certain areas of the screen

Hi there, using randr, I get a flickering mousecursor in a few well-defined areas of one of my screens. There are 4 vertical "lines", about 20 pixes in width that go across the screen from top to bottom. When I place the mouse cursor on top of these "lines", I get a flickering mouse cursor. The 4 lines are at about 235-255 pixels from the left edge of the screen, at 490-510 pixels from the left edge, at at 940-960 pixels from the left edge and at 1005-1025 pixels from the left edge. On the other monitor, this does not happen. Unreachable Code

Hi, In trying to understand a bit how the driver works, I've stumbled upon a bit of unreachable code. In rhd_mc.c line 156ff there is an if: // line 156: if (rhdPtr->ChipSet < RHD_R600) { // ... // line 174: } else if (rhdPtr->ChipSet < RHD_R600) { // ... Obviously, the else if case can never be reached. On a side note, I believe the two cases could be merged by putting a few more register offsets into variables, thus reducing code redundancy. Attached patch takes the guess that the first if really wants to test against RHD_RS690 and implements the additional suggestion. Sebastian Redl

Applies to 1.1.0 and git bc88513. He says: The radeonhd driver fails to properly enumerate available DVI connectors on my system and assign them proper resolutions. The video card is an integrated RS690 on an ASUS V2M motherboard. There is a VGA and a DVI connector. The DVI connector is connected to the DVI connector of the monitor through a single generic cable. The driver reports two DVI connectors, one able to run up to 1280x800 and connected to the monitor, the other able to run up to 1280x1024 (the actual native resolution of the monitor) RandR utilities see a similar report, grandr crashes when attempting to interact with the phantom second DVI connector. Once X starts with GPM, the card is initialized with a strange combination of 1280x800 and 1280x1024 resolutions: the X logical screen is 1280x800, while the monitor and physical display areas are initialized to 1280x1024. Pixels are reported square to applications. The mouse is free to roam all the way down to the 1024th line. Once the GNOME session starts, the top of the screen is replicated below the 800th line, and the mouse is free to roam on both parts. The GNOME-RandR applet shows only a few resolutions from 640x480 to 1024x800; selecting one actually changes the video mode to what's being shown in the RandR applet.
