[opensuse-project] failed to allocate memory
For days I have been trying to find certain software packages via the website https://software.opensuse.org/, but I keep getting the following error message: failed to allocate memory. Also the status page of OpenSuse is anything but good. Many services have not been updated since 2017. Why doesn't anyone care about the website? I installed Leap 15 and need some packages and wanted to see where I could find them. I can't get my computer running for days! I'm really upset and I'm thinking about switching to another Distro. did you try directly on build.opensuse.org?

What 'services' are you talking about? I just received a mail announcing the latest Tumbleweed snapshot...so the 'servicesÄ are running well IMHO.

You cant boot your computer and 'get it running' because software.opensuse.org has a problem? I dont believe that....
I'm really upset and I'm thinking about switching to another Distro.
Better approach would be to ask how you can help. BTW, I just tried s.o.o , and it worked fine for me! Cheers Axel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Please look at the screenshot: https://ibb.co/nrsYAz If you mouse-over the green text, you will get this information like a tooltip. Maybe I misread the message. But for me it seems that the status message was last updated at the time shown.

Cheers Axel Thanks for the quick answer. It helped me a lot because I can install
Leap works. I need some packages which are not in the standard repos, unfortunately I don't know in which I find them. That's why I used the OpenSuse software page for searching. You helped me with the tip on the build website. By the way, here is the proof, I have had this error message for three days now. Also sometimes the error message 503 appears, that the page is being maintained. https://ibb.co/fAKGxe the missing packages and complete the installation. Sam

Seems to be an intermittent problem since some time.

I think it means that the status has not changed since then. Ie, that those system did not have a problem in all that time. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.3 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)

Since today the software page works again. :-)

Okay, so it makes more sense. Maybe it would be better if it were written there: Running since... It's just a small suggestion. Thanks for your answer. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

When I see that problem I keep trying, and sometimes I get in.

Sure, but has to be made to the people that maintain that. Many things are run by volunteers from the community. Somethings to be done need a new volunteer. I don't know if this is the case.
Thanks for your answer.

Hi, software.o.o does not work for me too. It loads slowly and a search for stunnel either gives a 504 gateway timeout or the same error OP reported. -- Mit freundlichen Grüßen, Andreas Vetter -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

This has been reported already, it seems: https://github.com/openSUSE/software-o-o/issues/364 Sam wrote:

I don't know, I would assume the page is updated manually when there are issues. Perhaps some services did not have issues since 2017? Might even be a good thing. Not that I know anything. I'm seeing reports of this in the Facebook page's direct messages as well, as well as in the forums and the facebook group. I was having issues earlier today as well - Right now, I'm getting the "failed to allocate memory issue" - looks like something's leaking memory on that system. I've also seen very intermittent issues with zypper running updates as well - connection timeouts, generally. Sometimes it fails and when I retry, it works - other times, not. Something's up with those systems. has anyone reported the issues to admin@o.o which is the correct place to report infrastructure issues? -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adelaide Australia, UTC+10:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B

I understand that one of the people whom reported it through FB did also submit it to admin@o.o. One also said he contacted a few folks inside SUSE he knows but hadn't received responses (which I know isn't the same as reporting to admin@o.o - I just include that as an additional data point). It's a known issue, but unfortunately fixing it doesn't seem to be easy :-( - see https://github.com/openSUSE/software-o-o/issues/225 for more details. [re-ordering the quoted mail to avoid confusion]

The zypper issues are probably unrelated since zypper uses download.o.o (not software.o.o). Please check your zypper logs if the failures are related to download.o.o or a specific mirror, and then report it to admin@o.o. Thanks, Christian - I'll keep an eye on it, and if I see it again, I'll check those logs. Didn't even think about that at the time (downside of doing multiple things at the same time).
