For anyone who has never used irc before you can go to https://webchat.freenode.net/ then set #opensuse-project as the channel and join that way.
Thank you! I was afraid to ask :-)
Or try e.g. http://xchat.org/ or https://konversation.kde.org/ and configure channel according to https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:IRC_list
:-) It's simple, try it. :-)
I'm reading the wikipedia article and intended to set it up on Thunderbird. Now I'm having a look at konversation instead. I will read its help.
I just make up a nick? Ah, I see it is possible to register one.
You need some nick, but if You don't plan to use it often, no need to register. Either You get random nick when joining, or You pick up some temporal one.
I tried to register, but I got no response (it opened a conversation with myself, it said). I'm using server "irc.opensuse.org", which was already defined in Konversation. According to the links, I should get a confirmation email.
Maybe this doesn't work at this server, has to be done at another?
I tried "/help register" and got "Help not found".
(Feel free to reply on another mail list, if this is too OT here)
I have in Konversation connection to chat.freenode.net, port 8001, there are various openSUSE and other channels... -- Vojtěch Zeisek https://trapa.cz/
