:-) And no offence to you either, but "a real alternative" still seems
to me to be the best idea yet, given the OS market as it is today.
And to me it seems like marketing suicide to label yourself as "an alternative"
Absolutely, just how long are we Linux types still gonna be "the alternatives"? Screw that! We're standing vertically, we are kicking ass.
Over 95% of the market views Mac as the /only/ alternative to The Company From Redmond, if they bother to think about it at all. Linux does not even appear on their radar screens.
The target is that share of the market that is being influenced by the current set of Mac ads. If you do not catch their attention, Linux goes nowhere. Realistically, Windows is not even the proper thing to compete against right now. I'd like to see an ad something like the following:
PC dude walks out in a penguin suit. Mac dude looks shocked, fear spreads across his face as he cries, "Oh no, not again!"
PC dude kicks the sh** out of Mac dude.
Fade out to Novell logo, fade to openSUSE logo with caption (and voice) "SuSELinux, the *real* alternative".
