Imho the mission statement/slogan should at least:
- Speak to Windows and GNU/Linux users alike
- Say something about what openSUSE is and what sets it apart from other
distros.
Indeed, I don't think the selected slogans fulfil these criteria. Furthermore the current winner "linux for open minds" simply restricts the target audience. "Only people with open minds are allowed to use this, or will like this"
I also think this vote is meaningless without a "none of the above" or "re-open nominations" option.
OK, I think I have come up with one direction for a slogan which is also a one line mission statement:
openSUSE: working better together with you
"working better together" implies both improved integration of the distribution (which goes back to 1993) and improved collaboration in its construction (which dates to the creation of openSUSE). It also implies interoperability, which Novell has recently emphasised.
"together with you" includes collaboration as a developer, as a packager, as a tester, as an end user. And it brings "you" into the mission.
As a bonus, I could not find the particular phase "working better together with you" anywhere on the web. This may help to make it a trademark.
