So i ask you again. Do you really want your bootloader and kernel to only be "authorised" by the likely candidates that will crack your system for political or monitary gain?
Certainly I don't /want/ that, but at this stage of the game, it seems the stage is set for that to happen. So rather than push for what I want, it seems reasonable to deal with the hand that's been dealt.
That doesn't mean giving up on what I want - but there is a practical reality to consider, which is if we don't adjust to cope with this new thing, this new thing will keep us from running on people's hardware, and openSUSE will cease being a choice for them.
This is a case where perhaps taking a page from Microsoft's "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish" strategy might be helpful.

I don't think openSUSE is in a position to "strategize" or even "lead" in this matter. I'm not sure openSUSE is in a position to lead anywhere except with SUSE Studio and Open Build Service. You're right - we either come up with a fix by a certain date or there are people who will *never* run openSUSE. Just out of curiosity, is there an OpenFATE or Bugzilla entry for this? Seems to me it's not a "bug" but a new feature request.
