[opensuse-marketing] The Chameleon way

Just for saying that: The Chameleon idea is great: Maybe red for OBS, blue for the distro, yellow for Studio and green for the whole project....
Maybe this would be a nice idea for the marketing team. I really like Helen´s idea and maybe the marketing team can play with it till it fit and create something with it..... Beautiful !! That's the spirit. "Any Color you want, whatever you want to do with it and beyond". Different options in One Only Project. Oh, I love it. I was playing with those concepts to build the DVD cover Artwork too. Several Desktops (colors) and purposes (desktop, server, appliance, firewall, etc.). Maybe one color stripe for each option or something like that. I will need a good designer to make that come true. Just to clarify, so there's no more question on it: S.u.S.E & openSUSE have used a Chameleon as the logo for quite some time. The chameleon is named 'Geeko', a portmanteu of 'gecko' (another type of lizard) and 'geek'. But, the mascot has never been a gecko. -James M. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Helen, Tony One thing is official logo that is strictly defined. http://en.opensuse.org/images/0/0e/Opensuse-spacing-preview.png The other thing is what we can do to create derivatives. All derivatives are not openSUSE logos, just artistic play on the logo subject. Under "improper logo use": http://en.opensuse.org/File:Opensuse-donts-preview.png you can see examples of logos that are similar to official, but can't be considered as official. BTW, even the logo on http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Artwork_brand is not really official :) Here is what is protected as a trademark: http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4003:qpkc5l.2.1 -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

James gave us link to the actual image. For the search, there is a longer way that works for sure: http://tess2.uspto.gov/ Use link: Basic Word Mark Search (New User) You will get search field where you can enter 'openSUSE". Further click links to see what is trademarked. And, just as correction to the what is real logo. Above is US Patent and Trademark Office page, so it talks about what is registered there. In other countries can be other registrations. For instance http://register.dpma.de/DPMAregister/marke/uebersicht http://bases-marques.inpi.fr/Typo3_INPI_Marques/marques_recherche_marques.ht... or for many other countries: http://www.wipo.int/directory/en/urls.jsp Happy reading :) -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Best,
It not a problem at your side. I was trying the last Inkscape and Firefox beta version in Mileston 6 which showed the image cut in the right side. Now I did a download from oS 11.3 Std with no problem at all. So, I am playing a little bit with those graphics.
BTW. I already love that graphic. Best,

AFAIK, some subspecies of geckos are able to change limited their colors or color intensity.

It does not matter too much because maybe you are not a zoologist, animal related professional or have to deal with animals or jungle. :-)

Waoh, jdd ! That video it's awesome ! Maybe this is not what you want us to notice clarifying openSUSE is a Geeko not chamaeleon. Thinking loud again, I will share this thoughts. It's not clear what the lyric means but loved the color changing skills demo. Made think in Evolution. JDD, There is something not clear to me. AFAIK Gecko is a lizard and Geeko comes from "The official logo and current mascot of the distribution is a veiled chameleon officially named "Geeko" (portmanteau of "Gecko" and "geek") following a competition. Its design has evolved over time.[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SUSE_Linux_distributions]" Of course, I prefer to be recognized as Geek than a Lizard. :-D -hahaha Both have great adaptive behavior -- Ricardo Chung | openSUSE Linux Ambassador Panama openSUSE 11.4 Milestone 6 | Kernel 2.6.37-20 | Gnome 2.32.1 | LibreOffice 3.3.0.3 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

I was going to suggest something like this video,
Start with the standard logos from other distros (may require their
permissions), then lay the OpenSUSE chameleon partly over the logo
changing color to match...
To me, that would be simple to do, 'way cool and eye catching
particularly for those who recognize the other distro logo!
(Isn't that really who the OBS logo is targeting?)

Why we don´t make something absoloute crazy. An apple and a chameleon have to run away to save their lives. Both see a window. Whereas the apple have been seen by the catcher, the chameleon change his colour and can hide himself and save his life. I know it´s really crazy but the crazy things will be remembered by the users and developers. When we can make something, that makes the people laugh, they will remember us and maybe use our distro or use OBS or whatever. cheers kdl -- Kim Leyendecker (kimleyendecker@hotmail.de) openSUSE Ambassador powered by openSUSE 11.4 RC1 | KDE 4.6 | Kernel-desktop 2.6.37-20.1 | using Tumbleweed This mail was composed under Linux Have you tried SUSE Studio? openSUSE mascot has a shape of chameleon, so it is chameleon. If it can't change a color that means it is a chameleon with defect :) -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

let me state again that I learned that this video is an advertisement from a glasses vendor. We can't use it without explicit permission, but link to it as an example is for sure allowed. Besides, I don't see eyeglass vendor, or break.com, objecting free advertising in a form of attribution.
