I'm running the older 3.16 kernel on my laptop, but I have never had a working Seagate USB-3 drive not work from openSUSE. (I did have a Seagate 3TB usb-3 drive that was DOA from Windows & openSUSE.) I just tried a 2TB "BUP Slim SL" with no issues. What is the BK series? fyi: I have used 1TB / 1.5TB / 2TB versions of the usb-bus powered Seagate drive. No problems with any of them that I can recall. I've used at least 50 different ones in the last 12 months. My lsusb -v -s output from this drive is at the bottom of the email

do you have the usb-storage module loaded? If the above is all that appeares, it does not look like it is recognized as storage at all, these are the generic USB messages.
What could be wrong ?
Is it possible that you updated your kernel but have not rebooted? In that case, the module might not be present anymore and thus not loaded when plugging in the disk... Is it a bug I should report against our opensuse kernel?
It is a bug, but it is not a kernel bug. The final choice between storage and UAS must be made inside the kernel during probe. It cannot be done based on the properties as udev by default does. It is simply never a valid thing to load storage without UAS or to load UAS without storage if both are compiled. So please make a bug but against base system. The module rules need to be changed so that loading storage always also loads UAS and the other way round. Nope best one 13.1 :-) So I will backport what is on factory to 13.1 (normally this kind of thing should have be a backport update on udev/base-system) Perhaps one is still open in the queue. And thx stephan for confirming its already closed in factory. -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Board, fsfe fellowship GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+owner@opensuse.org
