But the disk part is not recognized

do you have the usb-storage module loaded? If the above is all that appeares, it does not look like it is recognized as storage at all, these are the generic USB messages.
What could be wrong ?
Is it possible that you updated your kernel but have not rebooted? In that case, the module might not be present anymore and thus not loaded when plugging in the disk...
