[opensuse-kde] KDE:Distro:Stable is now openSUSE 12.2
Hi, as a preparation of the openSUSE 12.2 announcement I've merged my latest maintenance update for 12.2 to KDE:Distro:Stable. Publishing is currently disabled, once it built and I was able to test it I'll enable it. KDE:Distro:Factory is now open for some KDE 4.9 merging fun. Anyone interested in helping with that? Thanks, Dirk -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for taking care of this.

Looks like it's still building as of Saturday night. I'll check again in the morning

Yes, I'll be able to work on that next week. I'd also like to start planning 12.3 features and get people committed to working on and integrating them early. Please hold off on this. I want to get 4.9.1 in first. There are a lot of fixed backported from 4.9.1 that will need to be removed, so I think it is better to do that before merging rather than after, so we don't have to keep rebuilding it. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Since introduction of a numbered release repo it should be easy to get what it means and to find each, even with strange characters in the repo name and lack of dot. As the first email in thread states, the content of KDF was moved to KDS. So now KDF is open for a more recent KDE version, i.e. KDE 4.9 which is currently only available in KR49. Thus the content of KR49 will be moved to KDF. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I don't know what todd has done so far, but I don't see any changes in the 49 repo - at least it finally published a working snapshot for all distros before the next build cycle ;)
Dirk has a scripts to update KDF to the latest tarballs
I don't have access to the final packages neither do I have a script to update them. Todd did so manually last time which is a lot of unnecessary work if there are scripts for this somewhere. I would have written some myself before attempting to update all packages manually - these script should be uploaded to OBS (e.g. into the kdebase4 package?) or somewhere else.
if updating is taking a while, another option would be to copy KR49 to KDF now, make KR49 into links and do the version bump in KDF.
I'd second that but in the end it doesn't matter which repo is updated first - only make sure only one repo is building at the same time in order to keep the build time for a complete 4.9.1 as short as possible. So after e.g. making KR49 into (fixed) links, it could temporarily set to build disabled until KDF finishes building 4.9.1 Nico -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

The problem is I don't have write access to KDF, while I do to KR49, so on KR49 I can get the updating done right away, while with KDF I have to wait for someone else to approve the update to 4.9, then wait again for someone to approve the update to 4.9.1. yes, that was the idea, I think - Dirk just started too early... it's too late now anyway, KDF already build 4.9.1 packages

If one links the packages from KDF to KR49, after they finished building in KDF within a few days, they will have to be built again, won't they. This would take even more days until KR49 gets to where it would be if it was not interrupted. So why should KR49 suffer? I'd say stop KDF and re-enable KR49. that would be another option - however, I think, KR49 will need a complete rebuild now (after the packages have been re-linked to KDF) while KDF has already built some packages and I'd guess, KDF is thus ready earlier personally, I don't mind which repo has 4.9.1 first - I'll happily switch :) I wouldn't mind an increased build priority though ;) Nico -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I checked earlier today, it already has high priority. I've stopped KDF build to save cycles and prevent changes there from triggering KR49 rebuilds. KR49 build has been reenabled (not by me) and seems to have picked up building the packages that were not published as 4.9.1, so I conclude that build was disabled before KR49 had built through, enabling a publish of the partial results that we see in the repos. Dirk, please allow KR49 to complete and publish 12.1 and 12.2 before starting work in KDF again; it's clear that we should have a published 4.9.1 first. Ok. Is this rebuild=direct? Adrian suggested we use it to speed up rebuilds. If this is the problem then we can document that it needs to be reset before a version bump.

I'm not sure that everything in KR49 actually has a fixed _link to its counterpart in KDF, so work in KDF could trigger an immediate rebuild without publishing in KR49. Correct me if I'm wrong. I just don't want the work Todd and Nico have invested over the last couple of days to meet users' expectations to have a delayed result. sorry, but disabling build will not fix anything for KR49. for some reason the rebuild flags were set incorrectly on KR49, which caused the incorrect publishing, and I didn't catch it early enough.
Ok. Is this rebuild=direct? Adrian suggested we use it to speed up rebuilds. If this is the problem then we can document that it needs to be reset before a version bump.
Indded. All distro versions are set to rebuild=direct for KR49. If it worked for 12.1 and did not for 12.2 and factory that would be even more strange. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Why has building in KR49 been disable? 4.9.1 has not been published there yet. I thought so, too, but apparently it was published - I can confirm this at least for openSUSE 12.1, x86_64 There are a lot of 4.9.0 packages for 12.2 in the repos mixed with 4.9.1

http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/49/openSUSE_12.2/i58 6/ re-enabling KR49 now would burden the OBS with twice as many build jobs (KR49+KDF! -> so, now the only thing we can do is wait for KDF to finish and use 4.9.1 from there (or wait until KR49 is set up + build + published again)

Usually it shouldn't affect the stability in a negative way. Some of your packages don't have the 4.9.1 bugfixes. That's all. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Hi, the publishing was incomplete, fixed now. All packages are on 4.9.1 level for 12.1 and 12.2 in KDE:Release:49. Greetings, Dirk -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Just re-enable it . And I hope Dirk talks to the obs staff to get increased build priority for KR49 and minimise the impact of his mistake. KR49 was close to being finished for 12.1 and now we have yet another delay! since KR49 has published, I've started to look at your KDE 4.9.1 work (thanks a ton for that!) and handpick it into KDF.
Following up on our discussion on IRC (I had to leave for home): Did you figure out what caused the current part-published state of KR49? It seems that all kdeartwork4, kdenetwork4, kdesdk4, fka-kdeedu packages, kdetoys4 are still at 4.9.0, since over an hour. The last builds succeeded, but I don't know if these were 4.9.0 builds. Build is now globally disabled for KR49 - would this prevent publishing from completing, eg if you disabled build before the publish had completed? We should get KR49 completely published as a priority before getting 4.9 into KDF: it's been promised all over the internet today to the hungry hordes downloading 12.2.
