[opensuse-kde] Fwd: Dolphin crashes on exit (OpenSuse, Strigi and KDE Factory)
Hi Folks,
I chatted with Dario earlier today and asked him to send me a mail to
forward. Sounds like a pretty common crash and I have not yet tested
myself, but wanted to get this out there for people to see.
Cheers,
Peter

On the KDE Bugtracker we are trying to identify a mass crash happening to OpenSuse users (11.2, 11.3, 11.4) with KDE SC 4.6 betas. The crash report is https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=257944
Summary of the Crash: Dolphin (and other applications) crash on exit if some actions are performed.
[snip] I can confirm this on KDE4.6 Beta.... - opening Dolphin takes +/-10 to 15 seconds, before the file manager is shown - any file picker dialog takes +/- 10 to 15 seconds to open (eg Save As in KSnapshot) - exiting the last open Dolphin results in a crash as described in the bug report. I also see the extended startup time but not for the file picker dialogue. But I do not see a crash when exiting. openSUSE 11.2 x86_64 kdelibs4-4.5.85-346.4.x86_64 kdebase4-4.5.85-193.3.x86_64 kdebase4-runtime-4.5.85-260.2.x86_64 kdebase4-workspace-4.5.85-539.2.x86_64 kdebase4-openSUSE-11.2-31.7.x86_64 -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Hmmm.. I updated to the latest builds (I was one build run behind, now
on 4.5.85-261), and now Dolphin is starting up quickly but it's still
crashing on exit.

Did you try some action in the file manager... open a text file, then exit the text editor, and close the file manager. This is when I can reproduce the crash in Dolphin (4.5.85).
Bigger problem (for me) though.... the bottom panel is not showing after the update and a restart. I can add a panel at the top of the desktop, but the bottom one... nothing... it's not there... can't seen to convince KDE to add it again. Haven't tried removing config files and starting "clean" yet.
Fixed by killing plasma-desktop, deleting plasma-desktop-appletsrc, restarting plasma-desktop and reconfiguring my desktop settings. I looked through the old rc file, but can't see anything that seems out of place or different than the working rc file. Just followed those exact steps w/o a crash. Repeated just to be sure and did experience a crash, And crashed again on a third effort. Greator than 25 seconds startup time. I reported the bug via drkonqi to kde.org (possible duplicate). -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
