This behaviour (no right click, no widget borders) is caused by the configured plasma desktop plugin not loading. We did not port this for the initial 4.2.0 packages, but it is now present. Perhaps you still have the older ones installed? Does ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-appletsrc contain plugin=plaindesktop? Is /usr/lib*/kde4/plasma_containment_plaindesktop.so present? Will

Either install the most recent 4.2.0 packages (although, 4.2.1 is out tomorrow, if you are bandwidth-poor).
Are more recent packages available in the factory repo?
Yes, that include the-ported-to-4.2 plaindesktop plugin.
If not, can i somehow fiddle with the configuration to avoid the problem?
Change plugin=plaindesktop to plugin=desktop in plasma-appletsrc and you will get the upstream default desktop (with cashew). HTH Will

Apparently not: dude@schraubensack:/usr/lib64/kde4> ls -al /usr/lib*/kde4/plasma_containment_plaindesktop.so ls: Zugriff auf /usr/lib*/kde4/plasma_containment_plaindesktop.so nicht möglich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden I then updated my KDE to the latest (as of March 3) factory version and still have the same behavior: No RMB, no widget borders after zooming out, no cashew in the top right desktop corner. I will update to KDE 4.2.1 once it is available and will report back if the behavior is still present. I was able to resolve this problem. Updating to KDE 4.2.1 was the first step (which i would have performed anyway since i like to work with the latest & greatest KDE). This did not change the behavior, i.e. still no RMB, still no widget borders or anything. I then verified that the file plasma_containment_plaindesktop.so now is indeed installed (i did not check this with the update of March 3rd, but anyway, now the file is there). I then noticed that the file plasma-appletsrc contains a suspicious line, namely "plugin=" (see quoted text above, with no plugin mentioned). I changed this to read instead "plugin=plaindesktop". Logged out and logged back in again and - voilà! - there's my cashew again and i see the RMB context menu. Credit is due to Will for giving me the pointers to the right configuration file and to the location where the plasma plugins are to be installed! I have no idea how the configuration file got messed up in the first place. Maybe some rogue update conversion or whatnot. Don't care, works now :-)) Robert -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

This is the standard kind of lumpy porridge you have to expect from KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop - at least we've identified the risk and we will make sure that the upgrade from 11.1 to 11.2 works smoothly. I've talked with Plasma devs about making Plasma fall back to the default 'desktop' plugin if the configured desktop plugin fails to load too. Will
