How are those supposed to work for people what require the average app to be fullscreen or nearly so to be usable, who see little to no desktop showing on each virtual desktop. The now discarded pager was simple and intuitive. Activities seem nothing like simple or intuitive.
What makes you think the pager is discarded? The pager and virtual desktops are still there, only one cosmetic feature is not.
But I was also wondering why different wallpapers are so important to people, when you usually never look at desktop anyway.
I utilize six desktops via pager and keep different apps open or resident on each. And switching between can be confusing with the same background on each.
