First and foremost I want to know how to switch the default desktop environment to Gnome, which some users prefer. I personally would like to use both, and switch between them at will, if this is possible. Two other users want the Enlightenment Desktop.
When you are at the login screen there is an option for session, this is a clickable button which gives you the option to choose which desktop environment that you prefer. I've noticed that it's default behaviour (8.2 and 9.0) is to login to the previous session type, ie. gnome or kde.
Hope that helps,
Mike
Maybe you configured SuSE to automatically log in. Meaning that your user-id gets loaded without you needing to type in your password. In that case the login-screen will not be shown. To return (from the started KDE) to that login-screen you have to log out (no shutdown!). Now kdm will ask which user to log in on which desktop manager, just as described by Mike.
