As the upstream bug report, clearly states (and you even refer to it), the bug is resolved with kdelibs4-4.14.16 which at this moment is non-existent. The latest released version of kdelibs4 is 4.14.15. The upgrade of Plasma5 has nothing to do with this bug as that this is a KDE4 issue !! running kopete under KDE plamsa 5.5.1 had this behaviour: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355275
now, after updating to KDE plasma 5.5.2 it crashes immediatelly after start.
as stated in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355275 a downgrade of kdelibs4 to 4.14.13 should help, but that is not available for tumbleweed.
the solution of the above mentionied KDE bug is the new version of kdelibs4 4.14.16 which is also not available for tumbleweed.
so, currently kopete is dead..... :-(
