[opensuse-kde3] always lots of updates
(KDE3 packages are not hosted on every mirror. Often they only come from a slow or incomplete mirror.) Why can't I update once a week without getting a slew of kde3 updates every week or more? Moreover, why can't I update without a slew of new KDE3 builds breaking something? Felix, As far as I can tell, when a package triggers a rebuild for 15.1, 15.2 or TW, all repos for KDE3 get rebuilt. Even 15.0 is still getting update (which is fine as long as nothing breaks). I have no clue what triggers all the rebuilds, (I know what should get built for the bugs I filed, and yes when kdebase or kdelibs changes, everything in the build order after either of those generally gets rebuilt as well) I don't who would look into this on the build side?? -- David C. As far as I can tell, when a package triggers a rebuild for 15.1, 15.2 or TW, all repos for KDE3 get rebuilt. Even 15.0 is still getting update (which is fine as long as nothing breaks).
I have no clue what triggers all the rebuilds, (I know what should get built for the bugs I filed, and yes when kdebase or kdelibs changes, everything in the build order after either of those generally gets rebuilt as well)
I don't who would look into this on the build side??

As to rebuilds, they should not be that frequent now since the patches for reproducibility were added by Bernhard Wiedemann. This means all the time stamps etc were removed from the build result, so unchanged pachages are identical after rebuilds. The reason why updates were so many (in July) is mainly due to Tumbleweed.
In July, "update-desktop-files" package in Tumbleweed removed old desktop
environment (including KDE3) and it causes build failure.
Since "update-desktop-files" is used in many places in KDE3, so it caused
many package update.
See changelog (rpm -q --changelog kdelibs3, for example) for more details.

I generally keep track of the patches TDE implements and there are several I wouldn't mind trying to help implement. The biggest holdup for me has always been (Where is the openSUSE build tree?) I built my own from scratch for Trinity on Archlinux, but don't want to reinvent the wheel here just to test patches. So if you can point me in the right direction there -- I'm more than happy to help write and test some of the nicer patches TDE has implemented. Where is the openSUSE build tree?
Do you mean a testing/development place for openSUSE kde3?
I'm now using home OBS project (https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:belphegor_belbel:KDE3)
as a playground (work place) for me.
I've done some testing here and if there seemed to be no problem,
submit to KDE:KDE3 and accept it.

Yes, exactly, I've always been hesitant just to duplicate the entire kde3 build tree in my buildservice account -- but I guess if no one complains -- why not? Generally I set up a build environment on a local server, to be ablje to control the build end-to-end, the order, etc.. but the next time I have time, I'll give a few packages a go on buildservice.

Yes, you updated the katepart syntax files nicely (with a few unintended side effects :) Right now, KDE3 works absolutely fine, I would like to work on .xz types for konqueror and ark, and TDE did a nice update to TLS a year ago that is another on the todo list. They also did a Gtk+3-Qt theme engine similar to the current kde3-gtk-qt-engine which would be nice to look at. I think it's enough to clone only the packages you want to modify.
Other required packages can be linked using meta configuration
(Projects -> Meta) like follows:

In this example, your package(s) can be built using the packages
which KDE:KDE3 provides.
Apart from that, there is also a way to build locally using "osc build".
