Hello all,
Thank you for having me.
The reason why updates were so many (in July) is mainly due to Tumbleweed. In July, "update-desktop-files" package in Tumbleweed removed old desktop environment (including KDE3) and it causes build failure.
Since "update-desktop-files" is used in many places in KDE3, so it caused many package update.
See changelog (rpm -q --changelog kdelibs3, for example) for more details.
Thanks,

I generally keep track of the patches TDE implements and there are several I wouldn't mind trying to help implement. The biggest holdup for me has always been (Where is the openSUSE build tree?) I built my own from scratch for Trinity on Archlinux, but don't want to reinvent the wheel here just to test patches. So if you can point me in the right direction there -- I'm more than happy to help write and test some of the nicer patches TDE has implemented. I look forward to having you and your expertise here and I am happy to help going forward, Welcome on-board to our sleepy little opensuse-KDE3 list.
