[opensuse-haskell] Stackage Nightly and next Leap
Hello all, We now have in devel:languages:haskell:lts working GHC-8.0.1 ( thanks to Peter Trommler ) and almost all packages built wit it. Only 9 packages fails ( lhs2tex failing due problems with new texlive in Factory ) and 2 unresolvable from 416 packages. We got three new packages as new dependency for cabal-install-1.24.0.0. I also added openSUSE:Leap:42.2 repository with build against it. On stable front .. I submitted first requests to openSUSE:Leap:42.2 - ghc-rpm-macros-1.5.3 and ghc-7.10.3. I'll plan submit to 42.2 set of packages based on LTS-6 or if LTS-7 with GHC-8.0.1 will be released before package freeze for Leap-42.2 of course this. . In current Leap 42.1 is set of packages based on LTS-3 I'll plan submit to new Leap --> pandoc, stack, xmonad + xmobar, ghc-mod, git-annex and darcs. Kind Regards Ondřej Súkup PS: Peter what about new bootstrap ? based on 7.10 or 8.0 ? PPS: due too old glibc in SLE11SP4 I lost all hope for successful support of this distribution.. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-haskell+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-haskell+owner@opensuse.org

GHC HQ has decided to focus on stability and performance of the compiler for the 8.2 release. So we could wait and update ghc-bootstrap to 8.2 at the same time we switch to ghc 8.2. IIRC, performance of the 7.8 versions is better than 7.10 and also 8.0 at least on Intel. In any case, the compiler that ends up in the distribution is always self-bootstrapped, i.e. bootstrapped with a current ghc that itself was bootstrapped with ghc from ghc-bootstrap.
