[opensuse-factory] Beta 1 experiences
Hi all! I just wanted to share some experiences with beta 1 and also figure out what is a bug or simply not yet finished ;-) - Although configured for Germany keyboard layout, I had the American keyboard layout while working in the installer. For me this was just annoying in the partitioner, but people with "y" or "z" in their passwords may not be able to log in. I haven't tried that out, but if you cannot log in, now you know why. Is that just part of "translation is not yet finished" or should I file a bug report? - Trying to format / with XFS went well at first, but during package installation the installer stalled. A process called "grub" was taking 99% CPU, if I am not mistaken this happened while grub was being installed so it was probably some pre- or post-install script of the rpm. Installing with ext3 went without problems. Is XFS supposed to work for / or should the partitioner prevent this setting? - The background in the installer looks horrible with its vertical grey stripes. Will that be replaced with some nifty design or is this the final look? - Concerning KDE3 support: Is bug #427692 just an internal joke or is this meant seriously? Indeed, guess I was so surprised by the first block that I missed the second one completely. Still, I am somehow waiting for a mail saying "April, April!"... I'll file bugreports for the other stuff. It is not a joke, unfortunately. -- "A computer is like an Old Testament god, with a lot of rules and no mercy. " Cristian Rodríguez R. Platform/OpenSUSE - Core Services SUSE LINUX Products GmbH Research & Development http://www.opensuse.org/

Did you have a separate /boot partition formatted with ext2/3 filesystem? If so, then what you described should work (and file a bug in this case, please). No, I just had / and swap, no /boot. If this is _not_ supported by grub, then the installer/partitioner should warn me about it. So, should I open a bugreport against grub or against the installer? YES! If in doubt, report a bug anyways (unless it's a duplicate). The idea of beta testing is so the software can be used in as many environments as possible. Let the developers determine if its really an issue or not. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
