When I used smart in factory, and it failed to install or download all
the packeges, I installed the downloaded packages via rpm with force
and no deps options.
You can install smart with the rpm command the smart packeges, and the
dependent packages of it.
You do'nt tryed with the yast factory module update?
Regards

Where did you get the SRPM you compiled from? I just had smart removed from one of my Factories, and neither zypper nor YaST work either. -( -- "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." Psalm 127:1 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. Funny you should ask that here, as I'm not sure I see any connection. Normally I don't use zypper, because it commonly makes systems unusable by replacing working kernels/initrds with broken ones. Yesterday & the day before in data gathering for http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11564 I may have seen it or something like it on the SCSI partition, but not on the PATA partition. On both the SCSI partition & the PATA partition now I tried 'zypper rm yast2-update' and got that bug. -- "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." On both the SCSI partition & the PATA partition now I tried 'zypper rm yast2-update' and got that bug. You can fix the problem by overwriting /usr/bin/rpmdb2solv with one from an earlier satsolver-tools package, I used satsolver-tools-0.10.6-2.i586.rpm and extracted rpmdb2solv with mc. I mostly use yast and sometimes zypper for cli quickies. There is also the workaround in comment 31 that I haven't tried yet and don't quite understand what to do. Regards Dave P

### begin quote Fate #305311: Add ability to libzypp/ zypper to handle multiple installed kernels Currently it impossible to keep your old kernel if a kernel update is applied. The way the kernel is packaged for SUSE products allows this since quite some time. To many users this causes trouble as they aren't able to boot their system - maybe due to a non working initrd or a NIC driver not working with the new kernel. As soon as this system is not local or the system isn't able to boot from CD or network these users are in trouble. The intention is to always keep at least the current working kernel installed. Maybe a sysconfig setting allows to control how many kernels are kept. A setting to 0 would make people happy which are used to deal with the dafault pain since ages. ### end quote I'm sick of this since ages. And tried to address it since the same time. But I still love the bugzilla and fate ping pong till it gets closes as a rare Lieschen Müller use case. It's terrible to have this working on the kernel packaging level since so many years now but preventing users from getting the benefit without any manual tweaks. Why am I starting this now again? The zypper libzypp stuff in geeral convinced me by the speed. Now I like to get it on a level which even allows these old Linux dudes from Göttingen to use it on a regular base. Maybe even without jumping out of the window immediately. Some employers know why they provide offices on the first floor. :) Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SuSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

For 11.1 there at least will be a zypp.conf option for the online updates. If it will work, no idea.
