[opensuse-factory] SaX2: Dead or alive ?
Hi I'm wondering whether our openSUSE community is interested into using and therefore fixing sax2. Currently there are two open issues. Both are kind of fatal and make the program more or less useless, especially the first one. #596454 - SaX2 fails to write xorg.conf/aborts when starting test #596470 - 'sax2 -a' never terminates In case nobody of our openSUSE community is interested into addressing that issue I'm afraid SaX2 needs to die already with openSUSE 11.3. Deadline for a fix would be the deadline for Milestone 7, i.e. about Sun May 16. And please remember the future development of SaX2 has already been discussed. http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2009-12/msg00017.html So this doesn't necessarily need to be done again. ;-) Best regards, Stefan Public Key available ------------------------------------------------------ Stefan Dirsch (Res. & Dev.) Right, but that time nobody complained about losing sax2 with openSUSE 11.3. Best regards, Stefan

That's not exactly fair. People may be interested but may lack the knowledge, skills, or time. What effect has a non functioning sax will be seen once 11.3 is finally released. -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. Well, installed 609 from 17may just now. No x.
Ncurses finished the install. As i did a fresh install, all old kernel settings were gone, so the crappy vesa x did not work either. Repair system does not work, i was asked to file a bug against 'yast repair module'. The question where to install the 'grub': mbr or bootpartition were both disabeld. Do you think a non expert knows what to choose? Anyway, i must have choosen wrong, as all my other entries were gone. Had to fire up an old 11.1GM dvd to boot 11.1, as M6/609 did not find any rootpartitions to boot. I had to replace the invalid menu.lst to get booted normaly. How should one be able to test anything, without a gui, in this time? As i kept my mouth shut during 'the' discussion, thinking: 'we'll see', and indeed, to throw away sax2, without a *working* alternative, seems to be as stupid as i thought it was. For me it becomes too difficult to test this way: loose a lot of time just to get a working os back to work again, so i'll skip this one. -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball, aka M9. Regards, Karsten
I beg your pardon, I updated to factory the other day and missed certain kde3 apps so I set about fixing it and all that's missing atm is kdegraphics3 (which I'm not really interested in) which will be sorted out when I have time. Kde3 is alive and well in the KDE:KDE3 repository. Well. Instead of answering, I actually checked out the sources and wanted to take a look at it, but as you know, running FACTORY on an intel chipset gives me lots of other stuff to tinker with, so I did not yet get to it. Add in that I now have hardware that does not actually need any sax2 magic to work reasonably doesn't add to the motivation of course... ;)

This one is actually xc.pl segfaulting - but due to a segfault handler continuously looping until SIGKILL. I added my limited findings to the bug, maybe it helps somebody else who wants to investigate. Oh - and just in case, you need to install at least these packages to be able to build sax2: doxygen-1.6.3-2.6 Mon May 17 18:40:43 2010 hwinfo-devel-17.0-2.19 Mon May 17 18:39:43 2010 libexpat-devel-2.0.1-97.5 Mon May 17 18:39:36 2010 xorg-x11-server-sdk-7.5_1.8.0-46.6 Mon May 17 18:37:54 2010 libqt4-devel-4.6.2-4.8 Mon May 17 18:34:38 2010 sqlite3-devel-3.6.23-3.1 Mon May 17 18:34:17 2010 swig-1.3.40-4.3 Mon May 17 18:01:40 2010 have fun :) seife -- Stefan Seyfried "Any ideas, John?"
