[opensuse-factory] openSUSE 11.1: Updates via PackageKit and PolicyKit
Hi. I´ve just read on the beineri's blog, that the KDE Updater Applet will switch from the zypp backend to its PackageKit backend by default for openSUSE 11.1. Could you explain me, why? Thanks. Best regards, Rasto -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Thanks.

Rasto, That's news to me, but unfortunately, it doesn't surprise me. I have 11.1 Beta 5 running right now, and honestly I haven't noticed any difference. In yast, I currently have the following listed as the update source: Updates for 11.1 URL: http://download.opensuse.org/update/11.1/ Category: YUM Looks the same as always. If there is going to be a change will someone please let of know. -- David C. PackageKit uses libzypp on openSUSE, so it shouldn't change anything. I guess there were various reasons for this, including "get PolicyKit support for free" and potentially simpler code since nearly all the logic moves to PackageKit. The switch was done several months ago already. However, if you do upgrades only (e.g. zypper dup), you might still have the zypper backend enabled. For reasoning, see Vincent's reply. For the future, we are looking into using the upstream KPackageKit applet directly, not maintaining our own applet. You can go to the configuration dialog of the applet and it should list you are using 'PackageKit Plugin'. Stano -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
