[opensuse-factory] Accessible installation of Opensuse 11.1
Hi all, I hope that this is the right list to ask this kind of question. I have just downloaded the DVD of Opensuse 11.1 Beta5 and booted it. After the DVD has booted I pressed F9 to launch the talking menu. I then selected installation and pressed enter. The DVD seem to boot something but I get no speech. Is this something that is going to be fixed or is it already fixed and its my sound card thats not working proprely. Any info would be apreciated, many thanks! Mine doesn't work either. It shows screen that it loads something, and it is switching to basic text mode, but I can't hear any sound. -- Regards, Rajko Many thanks for trying it out. I am however able to use the Live CD and I can then install it using Orca, the screen reader for Gnome. But I had a problem with that the installation program wasn't able to mount my harddrive for some reason. I haven't tried this as of yet, but if the installation goes into text mode, wouldn't it be possible to have BRLTTY loaded and detect any USB braille display? The installation program is looking for braille displays, but somebody mentioned that as a new to Linux you may have better luck with released version, ie. openSUSE 11.0 . On last Thursday there was new set of Live CDs. If you downloaded earlier you may try again. Regards, Rajko On Sunday 23 November 2008 05:33:38 pm Christian wrote:

there is currently no sound output enabled during regular installation. Only braille-displays are supported at the moment. However, the Live-DVD does support sound (at least the GNOME variant) AFAIK. You may want to check out the blinux@opensuse.org mailing list. Hi Steffen, Many thakns for getting back to me. I tried connecting both my serial braille display as well as my USB braille display but with no luck. Will I need to do something after pressing F9 and selecting installation? Best regards and thanks, Christian On 2008-11-24 at 16:29 Steffen Winterfeldt wrote:

no, that should do. I don't know exactly which braille displays are supported. There was however a bug (#408715) shutting out a number of displays connected via usb. Marco might be able to help you further; he's our expert in this area.
